Coconino
National Forest
07
Located in north central Arizona, Coconino National Forest is home to a diverse collection of vegetation and geology. Most of my time was spent in or around Sedona (home of the red rocks) and Flagstaff (home of the San Francisco Mountains).
Sedona was absolutely gorgeous. The cream and red colored formations towered around the city. They were a real hazard when driving as they demanded your attention away from the road. The evergreen trees perfectly contrasted the colorful rock walls. And the rushing water of Oak Creek made an already peaceful place that much more tranquil. Sedona itself had a fun, hippie vibe. Many claim there are energy vortexes in the area that produce positive energy that can be healing. Fortunately, these vortexes didn't interfere with my drone flights.
Did you know there were skiable mountains near Flagstaff? I did not. The San Francisco Peaks still had plenty of snow and the lone ski resort was still open for business. The higher elevations made for cooler nights which were very refreshing.
A surprising find was the Cinder Hills, north of Flagstaff. This area is on the outskirts of the Sunset Crater National Monument. The blacks hills were a bizarre sight. But they made for a fun off-roading experience. You could have a hayday if you had a four wheeler.
Arizona, in general, seems to be a very livable place. But the Coconino area seems to be most livable area of them all. I certainly want to come back again. Please enjoy the photos and drone videos of the area.
